Yikes.
"One of Sen. Larry Craig’s lawyers said Wednesday the Senate has no business looking into the conduct of one of its own following Craig’s guilty plea in connection with an airport men’s room sex sting."An unbroken line of precedents dating back 220 years makes clear the Senate does not consider misdemeanor private conduct to be a fit subject of inquiry, asserted Washington attorney Stan Brand."

not a defender of Craig, but you leave out that lewinsky was only an issue b/c of a sexual harassment lawsuit that was in a trial - and that the methods used to manipulate, cover-up her testimony were similar to methods used in other investigations. Without the lawsuit, there would be no impeachment hearing. There would be an uproar and a media circus, regardless...
So, not like it's an exact comparison.
Still, Craig has no idea what the heck he's doing.
Not an exact comparison, but Craig had already pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in a rather embarrassing public lewdness sting, so given the Senate's rules on member conduct (such as they are), it was in bounds for the leadership to find out whether there was an attempt to cover up something bigger.
But that's not my point. My point is that here we have a Republican lawyer arguing Craig's case ain't no thang...but Clinton/Lewinsky was worth dragging the country through the whole impeachment saga? I've argued before that that was absurd.
Incidentally, if I were a partisan Democrat on this issue, I'd be pulling like mad for Craig to keep his job. I'd be much more anxious to see the Dem run against Larry than a competent fill-in -- fish in a barrel. See my point?
